THE Jacksons will demonstrate why music is still as easy as one, two, three for them in a starring role at Love Supreme Jazz Festival this summer.

The Motown group, formerly known as The Jackson 5, are celebrating their 50th anniversary at the event, which is held in Glyne Place near Lewes.

The band currently consists of brothers Jackie, Tito, Marlon and Jermaine Jackson. Pop music legend Michael Jackson was a sometime member, juggling the band with the early stages of his wildly successful solo career.

Joining The Jacksons on the bill are multi-platinum-selling Gregory Porter, who won a Grammy Award in 2014 for Best Jazz Vocal Album, and soul singer Laura Mvula, both of whom last played the festival in 2014.

Brit Award-nominated vocalist Nao and Canadian jazz collective Bad Bad Not Good will also feature as new additions.

These acts join legendary American performers Herbie Hancock and George Benson, who were the first musicians to be announced.

After making their name on the famed Motown record label in the late 1960s and early 1970s, The Jackson 5 scored 16 top 40 singles in an illustrious career.

Less than a decade on from “Beatlemania”, the Jacksons experienced their own period of mass hysteria as Motown made the group their primary marketing focus.

The J5 heart logo became a familiar emblem that adorned the band’s album covers, posters and children’s toys.

A television cartoon based around the brothers’ ventures in music was aired in American on Saturday mornings.

Michael and Marlon Jackson left the group at the end of a worldwide tour in 1983, leaving the other members to release the poorly received 2300 Jackson Street album before being dropped from record label Epic, which they had been on since 1975.

The Jacksons reunited in 2001 after being inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame four years previously. Their appearance at Love Supreme is part of a worldwide tour.

Ciro Romano, founder of the East Sussex Festival, said Love Supreme was established to fill a “gap in the market for something which celebrated jazz, soul and funk”.
