It was the end of a very long week and all I really wanted to do was collapse in front of the TV.

But my fiancee convinced me I would really enjoy Billy Ocean at Worthing Assembly Hall – and how right she was.

The star of the 1980s performed all his hits and some covers, too.

As he told us, he had recently turned 59, but had lost none of his energy as he danced his way around the stage and flirted with women in the crowd for more than two hours.

The crowd stayed in their seats at the beginning of the gig but it wasn’t long before most of the audience were dancing the night away.

The favourites were, of course, When The Going Gets Tough, Get Outta My Dreams, Love Really Hurts Without You and Caribbean Queen.

He also performed a really good cover of The Long And Winding Road.

He was supported by Rozalla Miller, of Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)-fame, and the crowd loved her, too.

Overall, the night was a great surprise and had me rooting through my CDs for my Billy Ocean “best of” collection at the weekend.
