The first Argus Angel of 2010 has been awarded to a show for its artistic excellence.
The Importance Of Being Earnest, a sold-out fringe show at The Grand in King’s Road, Brighton, impressed Argus reviewer Duncan Hall so much that it was chosen to be the winner of this year’s first golden statue.
The take on Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy is coproduced by Other Place Productions and Something Witty. The audience can enjoy cucumber sandwiches and tea before the play.
Duncan said: “This production is perfect both for fans and first-timers, with the rapid pace making Wilde’s witty quips sparkle.”
Director Nicola Haydn said: “I am delighted with this award. It’s a perfect reward for the hard work that went into this production.”
The Argus Angel Awards are awarded by The Argus team of critics to the most outstanding shows and performances during Brighton Festival and Festival Fringe.
