Having won last year's Eastbourne Music And Arts Festival competition at 14, and this year's Willingdon Opportunity Knocks competition Harry Court is building a reputation as one to watch.

Now signed to CMP Artists, Harry released the single Someone To Be earlier this year.

“I have lived in Eastbourne all my life. I started writing songs about two years ago.

“My inspiration to pick up the guitar came from two people. My grandfather played flamenco and used to let me practise on his guitar. My brother’s friend used to come round my house and play rock songs on electric guitar. I thought it was a really cool instrument and I was determined to be able to play it.

“I grew up listening to lots of different types of music. Rock, pop, blues, jazz, funk, soul, folk, my grandfather’s flamenco, I liked them all a lot. When I make my own music it tends to be a mixture of all of those genres.

“Open mic nights provided a great opportunity for me to try out my sound in front of an audience. I would say I developed a lot of my performance skills through them, particularly with my singing.

“I was signed to CMP artists last summer after I won a guitar competition. The prize was to record a song at CMP Studios. I recorded one of my original songs and they really liked my style so they took me on.

“At the moment I’m just focusing on recording singles. I definitely have enough material to make an album so it might happen one day. I think the singles demonstrate my interest in trying different styles of music with the approach of a pop artist. Just Right is an acoustically driven song, whereas Someone To Be is quite a dance-able funky song, and Take Another Look is a groovy bass-driven tune.”
