Brighton-based dreamy indie pop merchants, Phantom Runners, played a set worthy of a much bigger crowd on Wednesday night.
A half-full Green Door Store shuffled around awkwardly at a free gig to promote the five-piece’s upcoming EP.
However, in all credit to The Wedding Present’s protégés, they did not let the low turn-out faze them.
After an initial slow start, the infectious Anna – recently championed by BBC 6 Music DJ Huey Morgan – saw the band get into their stride.
What sets them apart from others in this overpopulated genre of music is the addition of rapper Titus, who also plays keys.
The mixture of vocals and rapping worked to great effect on their bittersweet love song Chasing The Feeling.
They ended their well-polished yet extremely short set with a ferocious On The Run, which saw Titus's rapping take centre stage.
Their niche brand of indie deserves to fill bigger venues sooner rather than later.
