It's not often you come across someone who makes it sound as if a fretboard is actually a part of their body.

Chantel McGregor has been voted the best guitarist in the country two years in a row at the British Blues Awards - and the crowd at Komedia were left in awe as she performed as part of a three piece.

The modest venue rang with endless guitar solos as the band delivered a stellar performance of blues rock from a cool bassist wearing a bandana, a mountain of a man behind the drum-kit and the dainty blonde leading the way.

Because of the intimacy of the room, Chantel McGregor was able to turn on her Northern charm and interact with her fans - something she's also very good at.

She ripped through solos from some new tracks - which she wrote in a shed - and each one went down a storm with the crowd.

But it's not all punchy rock with the girl from Bradford.

The room fell silent to hear her sing a moody dedication to Jeff Buckley - of whom she said: "I'd marry him, if he wasn't dead" - with just her and her guitar filling the stage.

With the rise of female rock artists, it shouldn't be long before she's headlining big venues - and the music is definitely ballsy enough to carry her there.
