Nick Pynn and Kate Daisy Grant’s homecoming show reminded the crowd that there are other musical power couples besides Jay Z and Beyonce.

Pynn was first on stage and performed a few solo numbers. He may be a multi instrumentalist but his true talents lay with the violin. He came into his own during Moondog Bird Lament. The song, originally designed for saxophone, showed the techniques that set him apart from others.

He was joined by Grant on the piano, cello, mandoello (to name but a few) and the pair's talent for looping and building up sounds gave the impression there was an entire orchestra on stage.

The second half saw Grant take centre stage with her leftfield poppy songs. Her spellbinding voice took centre stage during her chilling performance of Lighthouse, an ode to her mother.

The highlight was her jaunty pop song Ding Dong, The Bitch Is Dead – which she stressed was not about Margeret Thatcher – the crowd will probably have hummed the extremely catchy tune all the way home.

The encore was an example in Pynn’s ability for bluegrass and Grant's power to silence a room with her voice.
