As he emerges from the shadow of a band in its twilight years, Feeder front man Grant Nicholas is taking his first tentative steps as a solo artist.

Hitting the stage at The Haunt for his first ever solo UK show, the 46-year-old singer received a warm welcome from a crowd of diehards.

Steering clear from the thrashing radio friendly hits which skyrocketed Feeder to stardom in the early noughties, Nicholas brought a delicate and gentle set to the table.

The much-more melancholic sounding Nicholas exclusively performed tracks from his semi-acoustic solo album Yorktown Heights – apart from closing with a cover of Tom Petty classic Learning to Fly.

Opening the whole show up as Q and A session, he happily fielded any questions the crowd would throw at him – whether they were about the album, the future of Feeder or his cat Cookie.

He finished by stepping down from the stage and shaking hands, taking pictures, and meeting and greeting the fans.

While his sound is not going to top the chants any time soon, artists like Grant Nicholas and Feeder are buoyed by a small but dedicated fan base who make each show feel like an evening with an old friend.
