Consisting of six musically gifted individuals, The Illegal Eagles took to the stage to the sound of pre-recorded southern strumming guitars.

Far from being cheesy, the props and stunning surrounds of the Theatre Royal Brighton successfully transported the audience to the deep south of North America back in the mid-1970s, when the Eagles were the biggest band in the world.

The band opened with an a cappella number, which allowed each band member to demonstrate their incredible vocal skills to an impressed crowd. Close your eyes and Don Henley was in the room.

Their vocal talents and arrangements were breath taking. The ease with which each band member effortlessly played a variety of instruments was incredibly impressive.

The band’s knowledge and enthusiasm for The Eagles was clear as they told the audience an Eagles story as an introduction to the majority of the songs.

Highlights of the set included a masterful cover of Lyin’ Eyes, which had the crowd on its feet, as well as a few slower solo numbers sung by Garreth Hicklin.

The band closed with an impressively high-voiced Greg Webb singing Hotel California.

It would be unfair to describe the six musicians simply as impersonators. They paid an incredible homage to the band they clearly loved.
