Since the mid-seventies Aswad have been respected as one of the top British reggae bands.

Never just strictly roots, their music has incorporated other influences and in 1988 they had a number one hit with Don't Turn Around.

Angus "Drummie Zeb" Gaye is the one remaining original member, with Tony "Gad" Robinson who joined in 1980.

These two, with three other musicians, hit the stage for the publicised “full live show with full live band”.

By their own admission this was not the full band and the full live show ended with Shine 70 minutes later.

There was no encore and most of the punters didn't care.

By then the atmosphere had descended to one of indifference, a fair reflection to a performance which did no more than go through the motions. Aswad's pop reggae was soulless, and for all the talk of dub there wasn't one to savour.

The only red, gold and green on the stage was the light show and before coming on it appeared that the band had imbibed dry martinis rather than "a big soft cigarette".

Not only did the grooves disappoint but the show was short and the admission price hefty for 70 minutes plus a sound system support.
