The History of Apple Pie are clearly more than just a quirky name, as they showed their audience just what the hype is all about with a busy well-chiseled set of noise-pop on Friday.

There was a buzz around the London Road venue, as the hotly tipped London five-piece took to the stage to show off new album, Feel Something.

Providing a cleaner, up to date version of the shoegaze genre of the early 1990s, the indie outfit have been tipped as one to watch since their debut LP, Out Of View was released to critical acclaim last year. The band’s live performances however, have often been a fall point.

Cramming onto the stage, feedback and big, distorted guitar riffs filled the box venue, grabbing the attention of passive watchers. Stephanie Min‘s vocals packed a bratty punch to add a modern twist to the dirty vintage instrumentation.

Unfortunately however, visually, the group showed little signs of improvement. With the stage floor carpeted with effects pedals however, you can see why this may have been difficult to achieve.

Although the band’s sound seems perfectly sculptured, they need to focus less on mirroring their influences, and more on their present show.
