When Of Montreal violinist Kaoru Ishibashi supported his now former band in town in 2012, he treated a presumably largely unsuspecting crowd to a dazzlingly upbeat set that threatened to outshine the headliners.

This time, the Seattle native paid this opportunity forward with great acts alongside a glorious performance from the man himself and talented band.

First up was Tall Tall Trees, the alias for hirsute New Yorker Mike Savino and his Banjotron 500, a modified banjo-cum-lighting-rig/sampler/drum-kit. A one-man band blending folk, bluegrass and stomping dance beats, Savino’s infectious postmodernism set the tone brilliantly for Londoners Beaty Heart.

Mixing Vampire Weekend summery exuberance and Yeasayer irresistible funky hooks, it wasn’t difficult to imagine this festival-ready foursome getting very big indeed.

Kishi Bashi took the stage to rapturous applause, which would prove richly deserved after a wonderful batch of eminently danceable indie-pop from both his debut LP and this year’s Lighght. A late solo violin slot compared favourably to Andrew Bird or Owen Pallett as the delicate Manchester and I Am The Antichrist To You were nothing short of beautiful.

An insanely sweaty encore - complete with beat-boxing and an extended strings/banjo jam - perfectly rounded off this unstoppably fun night.
