The Big Boy Band Reunion Tour brought together 28 performers from our new decade of nostalgia – the 1990s.

As the original ladettes settle down to careers and families there is a hunger to relieve the crushes and anthems of their teenage years. The boys have all grown up as well.

The tour presented each boy band in turn, singing their greatest hits. Some bands were seriously depleted – the eponymous 5ive now down to three – but others were going strong.

A collage of pop stars had been brought together to form the new band 5th Story including crowd favourite Adam Rickett, Gareth Gates, Kavana, Dane Bowers and Kenzie from Crossroads. They sang an amalgamation of the collected individual’s hits, retaining their own sense of identity within the group.

The night was entertaining, however the creators missed a few tricks with the staging.

By presenting each act in turn, they denied the audience the usual journey of a pop concert – building emotion and holding onto popular songs until the end.

More collaboration and fluidity between the groups could create a more surprising audience experience. The finale was an anti-climax – missing a great opportunity for all the bands to perform together.
