There is often a tricky balance to find when it comes to children's entertainment.

Too dull and you lose the interest of the little ones, too mind-bogglingly upbeat and every adult in the place wants to bash their head against the nearest brick wall.

But luckily for Bard & Troubadour, the double act responsible for this thimble-sized delight, they strike the balance perfectly.

Following Thumbelina on her adventures around the big wide world of the garden and beyond, the pair use song, puppets and audience interaction to bring this classic tale to life (as well as some magical imaginary glow bugs, of course.) As both the title role and narrator, Amy Sutton is sweet and charming. Her soft, reassuring voice is a comforting counterbalance to Joshua Crisp's whirlwind of a performance as every other character going.

From a French cad and self-declared King Of The Frogs, to a theatrical luvvie of a butterfly, and all the way through to the suitably sinister mole, Crisp is full of life and provoked genuine laughs from both children and adults throughout.

A brilliantly charming and fun half-term treat. No head-bashing required.
