The densely packed, joyously swaying crowd at the Corn Exchange were buzzing with anticipation as Lamb took to the stage.

Lou Rhodes and Andy Barlow are the musical masterminds behind the Lamb moniker, and all fans of 1990s trip hop will fondly remember them as one of the finest of their genre.

With hit singles Gorecki and Gabriel, Lamb achieved commercial success and legions of fans. After a period of pursuing solo projects in the 2000s, they’ve just released their first new album in years.

The pioneering duo has been performing together since 1996 and there was a clear, genuine connection between them.

Despite very different on-stage personas – Barlow clambered towards the crowd pumping his fists and shouting: “Yeah baby!” while Rhodes demurely sipped from a Thermos flask – they were both fully immersed in their collective sound.

There was a welcome blend of old favourites, including the ethereal Little Things and tracks from their new album, with Doves And Ravens going down especially well.

The Corn Exchange was the perfect venue for Lamb and the lighting was especially note-worthy. Swirling lights reflected off a well-used glitter-ball, throwing reflections onto the upturned faces of the audience; strobes pounded over the heavy bass-lines and when Lamb closed with Gorecki heartfelt cheers erupted.
