The 20th anniversary production from the alternative cabaret circus troupe was set in a zombie-ridden London.

Tongue-in-cheek but not for the fainthearted, the Britain’s Got Talent finalists performed a mish-mash of set pieces including sword swallowing, trapeze, contortion and acrobatics.

Dr Haze was the ringmaster and vocalist, but the loud rock band sporadically drowned him out, which may be why some songs fell flat.

Sword swallower Hannibal Hellmurto was unforgettable. So dedicated to his act that he had ribs permanently dislocated, the crowd were on the edge of their seats when he swallowed a curved sword.

Queasy humour was injected by Demon Dwarf who dragged a vacuum cleaner around with his genitals. This split the audience; some laughed, others heaved.

Sinister Sisters performed a thrilling aerial silks duet, but their gruesome murders were unnecessary, perhaps serving purely as a reminder that there was meant to be a plot.

The finale was a fast-paced spectacular, kicked off by a hair-hanging aerial display, complete with fireworks. Dangling only from her ponytail, Anastasia IV was mesmerising and received collective gasps and applause.

The Circus Of Horrors was not to everyone’s taste but the stunts were impressive and boasted a great group dynamic.
