Ricky Wilson is a showman, there’s no doubt about that.

From the moment the Kaiser Chiefs frontman appeared on stage at the Brighton Centre it was an exhilarating ride, whether he was belting out a classic hit like I Predict A Riot (which had the desired effect of creating a pogoing throng in the audience) or in a quieter moment with new, more contemplative but equally powerful track Roses.

Mixing up tracks from fifth album Education, Education, Education And War with a selection from their back catalogue, the Chiefs incorporated many ‘extras’ into the performance, not least swirling smoke and a phenomenal light show.

Ricky’s ability to disappear from stage and reappear in the audience, his spontaneous grabbing of a fan’s mobile phone for a quick selfie, his self-deprecating comments about moonlighting for The Voice, all built an incredible rapport.

The Bandomizer, which generated random songs, and the backstage video of the band being berated by Dave Grohl for not being rocky enough added more humour and depth to the concert.

The inclusion of The Who’s Pinball Wizard cemented the band's position as rock gods, and the audience literally erupted as indie anthem Oh My God closed the set.

An energetic, powerful performance showing the Kaiser Chiefs at their passionate best.
