It was all white on the night as Katherine Jenkins charmed an enthusiastic Dome audience.
The elegant Welsh mezzo-soprano mixed classical, traditional and modern popular songs with a homely on-stage personality.
She looked radiant too, her blonde hair and elegant figure complimented by several changes of dress, all of them white.
The audience gave Katherine a standing ovation at the end for well-crafted performances of songs as diverse as Beethoven’s Ode To Joy, sung in German, and Queen’s rabble-rousing We Are The Champions, which was her encore.
Katherine provided a warm reassuring glow on many songs rather than a tingle down the spine. But there was genuine passion in the Welsh anthem Land of My Fathers and In The Arms Of The Angel, a song she associates with the death of a friend from cancer at only 32.
Anthony Inglis conducted the National Symphony Orchestra to a fine performance of both sensitivity and power, including some engaging solo spots of its own.
Guest singer John Owen-Jones matched Katherine in quality of singing and range and the pair did a strong version of Barcelona, while John’s belting version of the Tom Jones hit Thunderball was both menacing and fun.
