The gun-slinging, Wild West musical is packed with captivating musical numbers, tongue-in-cheek humour, high-kicking choreography and a star turn from BBC’s I’d Do Anything-winner Jodie Prenger.
Based on a true story, this stage version of the Doris Day film tells the story of a cowgirl tomboy with a heart of gold who can out-shoot almost any man. She heads to Chicago to recruit a singer for the saloon bar but accidentally takes her maid.
Set in Deadwood, South Dakota, it features the classic songs The Black Hills Of Dakota, The Deadwood Stage (Whip-Crack-Away!), Secret Love and Windy City.
Prenger plays Calamity, the feisty, scene-stealing heroine, with gusto. Her vocals are sensationally powerful and compliment her broad comic style.
Emmerdale actor, Tom Lister, plays tough frontiersman Wild Bill Hickok with wry humour and performs a stunning rendition of Higher Than A Hawk.
The versatile cast sing, dance, act and play instruments. The multi-functioning props are imaginative and effective; the piano became a stagecoach and wind instruments double up as guns.
This is a slick and professional Wild West romp with cracking performances from Prenger and Lister. It is no secret that the audience loved this show.
