Announced only a few weeks ago, this was an intimate, rare gig to promote Lianne La Havas’ upcoming second album, Blood.
Considering the wild success of her debut in 2012 and subsequent sell-out show at Concorde 2, it’s no surprise that the Komedia show also sold out within hours.
Her sultry, longing vocals on the debut and charming, youthful persona have won her thousands of dedicated fans. Everyone lucky enough to get a ticket craned to get a bit closer to the stage, making for a very hot evening with La Havas wiping her hands down with a towel between songs.
All the old favourites from Is Your Love Big Enough were played, to a delighted audience who alternated between crooning along and wiping away tears.
With surely one of the most touching, soulful vocalists of her generation, La Havas’ live performances are rightly renowned.
This was the first performance for many of her new tracks, and showed a progression to her style, with fewer mournful lyrics, more grooving bass-lines and a sexier, jazzier confidence.
New tracks Tokyo and Unstoppable stood out as future hits and her delivery was self-assured.
She knows how good her new album is, and now, so do we.
Five stars
