If you’re a parent hoping to introduce your little darlings to the delights of a music festival you’d be hard pressed to find a better one than Elderflower Fields.
Months of thoughtful planning went into this family festival at Pippingford Park in the Ashdown Forest, with the result that there really was something to interest children of all ages.
The kids in our group between them experienced archery, climbing, slacklining, crafts, kayaking, songwriting, parkour and football as well as watching a raft of bands and trying out silent disco (huge amounts of fun).
The site felt more cohesive this year, with the main stage in a more central position and a ‘bus service’ ferrying campers about the site and acting as an inpromptu ride for children.
A new stage near the cocktail bar in the trees – with a giant mirror ball and lasers creating a magical effect amongst the trees as night fell - was also a welcome addition.
Last year’s stalwarts Michele Stodart of the Magic Numbers and Gomez frontman Ben Ottewell returned to the main stage for strong sets and the Woodland stage featured a good mix of acoustic artists as well as shows for children.
The Sunday picnic, EF’s jewel in the crown, was again blessed with sunshine and brought festival goers together for the ultimate feelgood vibe. It's the gift which keeps on giving.
Five stars
