Far in the future rests the last bookshop in the country, a relic of the past as the digital world made books redundant.

Just the last few characters of the books live in that dusty shop and now their future is threatened.

The premise of the play written and devised by the ReACTion Youth Theatre is an interesting one.

The characters from the books which come alive are standard issue from children’s books - a wizard, a ballerina, a pop princess and an orphan - and easily recognisable for modern children.

Enter Oliver, who aims to sell the bookshop to make a fortune and the characters need to convince him to save their home.

ReACTion Youth Theatre was created to give young people between 16 to 25 the platform to devise and perform on stage.

This play, performed by a cast of five had its first showing to a small audience of families this week.

The beauty of the Fringe is that new companies are able to experiment with new work and while this production has promise it needs some further work to polish it up.

In essence, there needs to be some more jeopardy injected into the plot to create more drama which would pick up the pace.
