Slum Of Legs, signed to Tuff Enuff records, had a shaky start at The Hope And Ruin on Thursday.

Despite this, the all-female group rallied and played an intense and exciting set.

Their six piece line-up featured an electric violin and old Korg synth. These and the synth player’s other gadgets - which included a hand-held Theramin - gave depth and diversity to the band’s sound.

Falling definitely within the DIY feminist punk scene which arose in the 1990s, known as Riot Grrrl, Slum Of Legs were led by their wildly charismatic lead-singer.

Flailing manically around the stage, her singing was mostly tuneful, sometimes guttural. In any case, she carried the audience with her all night.

All skilled musicians, the band played with a huge amount of energy. They may have given out a slightly bizarre impression - the set ended with all six in a heap of distortion and feedback, writhing on the stage floor. However their intensity and theatricality made this a memorable performance.

All the audience returned home entertained and with a smile on their faces.
