This veteran band played to a Concorde 2 that was packed absolutely to the rafters.

All nine members crammed onto the stage, led by the magnetic Kid Creole, resplendent in a purple suit.

August Darnell and his three Coconuts captivated the audience with their energy, style and seamless choreography.

Behind them stood a world-class band of internationally recognised players.

The audience was treated to blistering trombone and jazzy trumpet solos, layered over the band’s signature brand of disco-infused Latin and Caribbean rhythms.

A highlight was Stool Pigeon, which went down so well that the band played it twice, replacing the lyrics with improvised audience call and repeat.

Kid Creole appeared as somewhere between Cab Calloway and Parliament’s George Clinton.

Another staple hit, Annie I'm Not Your Daddy was dedicated to all the illegitimate children in the audience.

Here the guitarist, whose funky riffs complemented every song, got everyone moving with his soul and deep groove.

Later there was a surprise appearance from The Pineapples, a trio of Darnell’s daughters.

The band’s encore began with a primal keys solo, and ended with deafening applause.

Musically, it was an exciting, eclectic evening. As for entertainment, it was a uniquely irresistible and enrapturing experience.
