Anyone who likes their reggae with a dash of pop or pop with a splash of reggae would have loved this show.

Ben Russell and The Charmers served up the pop/reggae to start the party and the all Maori eight-piece headliners Katchafire, from New Zealand, offered more of a roots groove to get the feet moving.

The one-time Bob Marley tribute band have been touring all over the world for the past 15 years. They were slick, accomplished, and had that air of confidence that a band can exude when it knows it has the gears to take a crowd to higher ground.

Both bands suffered from an inferior sound, unusual for Concorde 2. Katchafire had the advantage of a considerable core following who really lifted the atmosphere.

When you can seamlessly ease Marley's Three Little Birds into your set list then you always have a trump card up your sleeve.

Yet they didn't quite live up to their name; always promising the next level but never quite igniting the flame.

The smallish crowd lapped it up, however. The band displayed the enthusiasm and energy to indicate they were enjoying themselves too and that this was not just another gig.
