This playful stage adaptation of the popular children’s cartoon was faithfully translated.

As in the televised version, Nanny Plum (Nicky Cross) was a firm favourite, adopting her familiar drawl as she produced magic spells gone- wrong.

Produced by Limelight Productions and Fiery Angel, this show adapted stories from the animated series and paced them just about right for its very young audience, capturing children’s imagination.

The audience followed Lucy, (Lara Cowin), a little girl who excitedly woke to discover the tooth fairy and Ben and Holly in her bedroom. Lucy was thrilled to shrink to their size and fly with them to a place that’s “not called Fairyland, it’s called the Little Kingdom”.

Masks enabled the cast of eight to appear as near to the cartoon characters as possible. The twinkly lights, puffs of smoke, colourful floral scenery and music also supported the action.

Despite plenty of initial attempts to encourage interaction - including counting out loud and sing-alongs - the audience took a while to warm up and properly join in.

Eventually all the magic mayhem, such as slug slime and jelly floods, drew the little ones in and by the end all obliged when told “everyone on their feet for one last dance”.
