Chiddingly Church was the fitting venue for the finale of this year’s Chiddingly Festival by the classical string quartet, the Benyounes.
The varied programme of works ranged from Haydn to Ravel, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky with each of the pieces as polished as the last.
The quartet brought calm passion to even the most demanding sections of the four compositions and appeared to have an instinctive understanding of each other’s instruments – no doubt as a result of many hours of practice.
The accomplished musicians got together at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2007 where they won a scholarship to the Geneva College of Music and graduated with the prestigious Prix D’Excellence.
Residences at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and Bangor University followed together with debut recitals at the Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall.
Recent performance include concerts in Vienna, Bordeaux, London, Aldeborough and Dartington - to name but a few of the prestigious venues to have enjoyed their performances.
The Quartet is increasingly in demand and are clearly on their way to international recognition.
Their booking was yet another example of the local village festival attracting class acts and punching above its weight.
