Having smashed through their opening couple of songs to set the scene at the Brighton Centre The Vaccines almost came to a grinding halt.

Only a handful of songs in, Justin Young delivered one of the worst live performances you'll ever hear as he screeched his way through Dream Lover from the latest album English Graffiti.

The frontman - who later told fans he'd lost his voice - was visibly shaken by his inability to hit the high notes as he reeled away from the microphone a dozen or so times before the song ended to the delight of the wincing fans.

He was consoled by guitarist Freddie Cowan and Arni Arnason and thankfully managed to claw it back.

The five-piece roared through their trademark punchy setlist and the audience bounced in unison in a wave of heads and crowd surfers.

It's not until they perform live that you realise how many hits the band has had, and the songs are so short that you hear all of them so the band can fill their allocated time slot.

Barring the early slip-up and a bizarre decision to let bassist Arnason take the mic during the encore for a heavy rock number, it was a stunning show.
