The impressive technicality of this entire performance was consuming to watch, yet in a live context compromised the energy and created little to move the soul.

Kate Daisy Grant opened with husband Nick accompanying.

Her new album Portrait featured Grant's wonderful vocal leading the way through a flurry of looped instruments.

Each word was crystal clear and the control and range of her voice stunning.

The lyrics however were a celestial language that defied comprehension. Grant didn't have a stage presence to match her musical talent. Being mostly stuck behind a keyboard didn't help and her set was too long to start an evening.

Special guest Beverley Martyn, one time partner of John Martyn, performed four of her songs with Nick Pynn at the start of the second half.

Pynn then played alone, looping everything including Appalachian Mountain Dulcimers, The Crystal Sisters (wine glasses) and (Urma)Theramin.

He also has a new album out – Waterproof. While Pynn’s hands flashed and his feet danced on the pedals, his spoken vocal sank and was lost.

Some people left (it was too long for a Sunday evening), some stood to applaud.

While the musicality of Grant and Pynn was a joy, Martyn's brief appearance was vulnerable and more memorable.
