Droves of people hummed Oh What a Night as they exited the auditorium on Wednesday night.

This followed a whooping, cheering and dancing audience in full swing of this uplifting musical.

Matt Corner’s interpretation of the high pitched vocals Frankie Valli is so famous for is polished in the opening numbers but becomes progressively guttural with the storyline, true to the development of the singer’s career.

There is an added not-before-seen dimension to the comic band member Nick Massi in the way Lewis Griffiths portrays his frustration when problems come his way.

The arrogance of Tommy DeVito comes across perfectly in Stephen Webb’s performance while Sam Ferriday shows off the self-assured Bob Gaudio.

The cast members really come into their own during numbers Walk Like a Man, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and Who Loves You? prompting huge cheers from the crowd.

There is a superb band and the script strikes the right balance of comedy and drama.

Some will not like the language but expletives and slang make it authentic – these boys are from New Jersey after all.

The representation of the accent can swallow some of the one liners but clever staging over two levels brings the action closer to the crowd.

A few minor technical hitches do little to disrupt the slick production.
