AFRIKAN Boy, playing to a relatively small crowd at the green door store, produced a set of extreme vitality that reminded you of how good live music can be.

This was so much more than grime, it was rapping from the heart with an old school flavour, lyrically political and thoughtful but genuinely funny at times, and humour can often carry an idea a little further into your mind.

Every musical reference was bang on and delivered with such energy and integrity.

He was born in Nigeria which is probably a clue to the authenticity of the deep African sound in many of his songs, true tribal beats that got everyone bouncing.

Effortlessly genre shifting, at times it was like listening to KRS - One but from the world music section, with elements of America , London and India bound together with African beats and a real joy of performing.

Playing as a three piece, the other band members complemented him perfectly and really the only fault was that it was a Sunday night, but they made you feel like it was Saturday.

He ended saying ' Afrikan Boy spell it with a K , ok Brighton I might come back some day ' well I hope he does, I'll be going.
