The US born comedian, actor and writer blended comedy, lecture and seminar in her one-woman show that offered the audience a passport to saner living.

Ruby Wax described this tour, based on her latest book A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled, as her ‘unplugged’ as she answered questions from the audience with her trademark wit, sharp one liners and frank opinions.

The comedy was reflective, exploring her own struggles with depression, her childhood, giving birth and raising children.

Wax has impressive credentials, including a Masters in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy from Oxford University, and tonight’s show was clearly well researched. Never preachy, she kept the information light-hearted and backed up her opinions with scientific fact.

Wax described mindfulness as finding stillness in life’s chaos and explained how it has helped her cope with stress. A few exercises followed, including concentrating on your senses, rather than your thoughts, which the attentive audience enjoyed.

The audience had a chance to have their own questions about mental health answered, as well as hearing readings from her latest book.

The simple set included just a chair and table, but her charm and zany energy easily filled the stage. A very funny and accessible guide to mindfulness.
