I went into A Little Prince not knowing the original story enduring the popular French novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

This musical version had some beautiful and profound moments but it lost me at times. There were too many monologues from our young prince, charming as he was.

The nine year old Ronan Powell pulled off an amazing performance though, to hold centre stage for an hour and a half.

The way he asked repeated questions to the adults added to his character. The moment he said "grown ups are definitely strange people" did well to reduce their stresses to nothing, relaxing the crowd too.

And it was a wonderful setting, making it all work when the crashed pilot sang about looking up at the clouds as there they were above us.

And Scarlett Smith was fantastic, bringing the show to life with her different characters, be it the businesswoman or the rose.

It was a sweet show, a tiny bit too sweet at times.

But I left having been warmed, soothed and relaxed by the innocent joy that came across as Powell transported us into the prince's world and his innocent view of it.
