Billed as one of South Africa's premiere blues guitarists, Dan Patlansky's music style can best be described as diverse.

One moment he is playing intricate blues in his own classic way, the next he is thrashing out heavy rock more akin to Led Zeppelin or the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Patlanksy is a phenomenally skilled guitar player who can literally make his guitar sing. Sadly, the sheer number of different styles in his set proved distracting and detracted from the overall impact.

Having supported acts such as Bruce Springsteen and Joe Satriani at stadium venues in South Africa and across Europe, Patlanksy is currently booked to play at venues throughout the UK and Europe promoting his latest album, Introvertigo.

Had he stuck to his strengths, I could have listened all night. Unfortunately, the best parts were just a filler for heavier and slightly more derivative fare.

Despite not yet being a household name in the UK, he attracted a good crowd for his concert and tickets were sold out.

He should concentrate on what he does best – classic virtuoso blues guitar played with intricacy and feeling.
