SLOW Club’s Rebecca Taylor and Charles Watson started in 2006 playing at friends’ houses in Sheffield armed with a couple of acoustic guitars.

Following the success of albums Paradise and Complete Surrender the band has grown, with drums, bass, keyboard and synthesizers now part of their changing sound.

Therefore it was refreshing to see the two of them walk on stage for a stripped back, intimate set.

“We’re going to play some new stuff," Rebecca said, "So bear with."

With four of the first six songs from their new album, it was clear they were using the tour to test out material before the full band gets back together.

Largely it went down well, with Ancient Rolling Sea and Come On Poet particular highlights.

Crowd-pleasers Tears Of Joy and Paraguay And Panama got feet tapping.

The real of highlight, as ever with the Yorkshire duo, was Rebecca's voice, which complemented the delicate acoustic tones to perfection.

It was clear there is work to be done on the new songs, but there are plenty of hits in the making.

Come their autumn tour, which kicks off at The Haunt in Brighton, the full band is sure to sound immense playing songs new and old. Those at this gig can say they heard them first in their raw, acoustic glory.
