Apart from a US tour in 2014, Tom Bailey has been seemingly in hiding for years.
Billed as a special one-off performance, Tom Bailey mainly focused on classic Thompson Twins songs.
The Thompson Twins’ performance at the now defunct Brighton Jenkinsons in February 1982 was a true classic. It was an exhausting gig, the audience danced non-stop, dripping in sweat. It’s appalling when one realises this was more than 34 years ago.
Tonight was a 1980s nostalgia trip. Sporting a headset mic which looked rather odd and did his voice no favours, Tom delivered hit after hit: In The Name Of Love, Sisters Of Mercy, Lies Lies Lies, Doctor Doctor, Love On Your Side and Hold Me Now, to name but a few.
They were all delivered impeccably with a three-piece female backing band and a heavy reliance on programmed backing tracks. The audience sang along dutifully, swayed at times, and sometimes clapped along.
Tom worked hard on stage, singing enthusiastically, demonstrating what a good musician he is, playing keyboards and guitar.
But this time, despite the effort, there was no sweat.
