Cast against an encasing darkness, Yazmyn Hendrix stood alone on stage save for a crowd of redundant instruments.

But circling her beautiful, cooed vocals through a slalom of loops and occasional beats, this Brighton peddle magician managed to single-handedly foster the aural illusion of a powerful choir in a dramatic yet measured opening for a line-up of performers with talent to burn.

Polly Money, a Cornish singer with a wink in her eye and a sweetly heartfelt new EP, Adventures Of The 90s Kid, proved herself a troubadour and expert crescendo builder with an energy and voice which could turn walls to rubble.

She played a potent and powerful partner on backing vocals for headliners Hetton, a newly-formed four piece with Brighton roots and a gift for alt-folk without whimsy.

Thoughtful understatement is the signature of the now-London-based group, and their sound rose into mighty harmonies through charismatic singer Bobby Good's ear for a classical guitar line, a nimble-fingered guitar duo and the tom-tom drumming of Alberto Voglino.

Would-be single USP finely demonstrated Good’s melancholic yet warm lyrical style and their final number emphasised their idiosyncrasies: its title, explained Good, was the Welsh for goodnight.
