FLOWERS sound like a band out of their time.

Had they hit the scene in the mid-80s you could imagine them being hailed to this day alongside the likes of cult indie-pop bands such as Talulah Gosh, The Pastels and The Sea Urchins.

Alas, they live in times where suchlike groups seem to be few and far between, lost amid the overwhelming ocean of Soundcloud links and Bandcamp pages.

For those who have stumbled across their catalogue of short, sharp pop tunes filled with strums of fizzing guitar and choir girl vocals, they have become something to be cherished.

The Prince Albert’s clammy first floor was filled with an atmosphere of unspoken recognition among strangers who enjoyed a shared charm from the moment Sam Ayres’ chiming chords were joined by Rachel Kenedy’s angelic voice on the opening Pull My Arm, from latest album Everybody’s Dying To Meet You.

Other highlights such as Joanna and Tammy showcased how they were able to beef up their live sound.

Much credit for this went to drummer Jordan Hockley, whose tub-thumping beats were a driving force behind the whole set.
