Julian Marley is often compared to his legendary father Bob Marley. But such comparisons do both men an injustice.
Julian may have been inspired to take up music by his famous father, but he has clearly worked hard to develop his own unique style and to perfect his stage craft.
He is lucky to have surrounded himself with a band of musicians who work together well to deliver a show that is both slick and note perfect.
It was particularly refreshing for once to see a multi-racial and multi-generational audience at a Brighton concert, demonstrating the breadth of Julian’s appeal.
Stand out points: Great lead guitar, outstanding backing vocals and a visually entertaining stage show.
The band never missed a beat as they moved without stopping from one song to the next.
There may have been an overlay of reggae to the whole performance but there was something mixed in there for all tastes with flavours of blues and driving beat thrown in for good measure.
In an age when bands continue performing into their 70s and beyond, Julian Marley is a relatively young 41-years-old.
He should continue performing for many years to come.
