MAKE no mistake, Kraftwerk are music royalty and their sold-out Brighton show was a visual and musical feast.

Their ground-breaking 3-D show was first seen at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 2013 and since then there has been plenty of pent-up demand among fans waiting to witness their first full UK tour in 13 years. So, 3D spectacles donned, we were off on a non-stop banquet serving up classics of modern electronica, the familiar hits booming out and sounding just as fresh and modern as ever.

There were mass gasps and cheers as projections came hovering towards us in fantastical forms; rows of numbers and computer code, neon lights, man machines, cars on the autobahn, cyclists on the Tour de France, express trains, the Earth from an orbiting space station and, yes, a spaceship landing on the Royal Pavilion. Oh, and the robots. We knew there would be robots - the four musicians replaced by life-size models wheeled on and off stage somewhat hesitantly.

After the real Kraftwerk had left the stage, taking their bows one by one, even the massive curtain was refusing to cooperate. No one really wanted two hours of such brilliance to draw to a close.
