The Argus: Download of the Week
The Argus: AK DK

AK/DK

From: Brighton

Influences: Battles, Death From Above 1979, Raymond Scott and Neu.

Profile: Based around the double drums and synths of Graham Sowerby and Ed Chivers, AK/DK have earned an enviable reputation around Brighton as a live act not to be missed.

Their sets are built around improvised layers of fuzzed-up synths, abstract electronics and raucous energy over their two drum kits, as seen in support slots with Fujiya & Miyagi, Three Trapped Tigers, The Dandy Warhols and backing former Can frontman Damo Suzuki last year.

Their shows may be hard to categorise, moving between punk and dance to progressive and melodic selections, but they have tried to capture some of that energy in two releases – the cassette-only Dispatch #1 released on their own label LittleMissEcho last year, and its clear vinyl seven-inch follow-up Dispatch #2, which features this week’s Download.

The pair have also remixed tracks by the likes of Napoleon IIIrd, The Woo!Worths and ManRaySky.
