The Argus: Bunty

Bunty

From: Brighton

Influences: Early MIA, Tom Waits and Ella Fitzgerald.

Profile: Kassia Zermon studied alongside the likes of Joseph Mount of Metronomy and Natasha Khan aka Bat For Lashes at the University Of Brighton, where she started her musical adventure as a versatile vocal-musician and performer.

Her first release was a limited-edition bedroom project, Mee Moo, before she made her debut as Bunty in 2007 with the album Licking La Lune on Beatabet Records.

It saw her pioneer solo vocal-loop music, which she has developed into audio-visual shows with video artist metaLuna.

Her live shows mix synths, toys, ukuleles, voice, effects pedals and both real and made-up language, creating her music from scratch to make each show unique.

She has already caught the ear of Resonance FM’s Ruth Barnes and BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson, having performed at Glastonbury, London’s Koko and Brixton Academy, and on tour support slots with Jamie Woon, Scroobius Pip, Arrested Development and Red Snapper.

Her latest project, following on from 2010’s Bunty Say Go, is Multimos, a multimedia album in seven parts, featuring at least 101 collaborations and taking in film, apps, theatre, performance, improvisation, lullaby machines and electronic birdsong.

The three-track Mos 1 was released in August and the next part is due in October.
