The Argus: CliffHanga

CliffHanga

From: Haywards Heath

Influences: Breakbeat, drum ’n’ bass, dub, Sega Megadrive and Sonic The Hedgehog.

Profile: Bedroom producer CliffHanga, also known as 21-year-old Pete Clifton, is set to release Landmines, his first single for record label Suicide Dub on Monday.

His obsession with music began as a six-year-old, when he pulled apart his Major Morgan to change the noises. Ten years later he began downloading software to create “noisy” drum ’n’ bass tunes. Label owner High Rankin saw something in CliffHanga’s music and released two tracks on his This Is Suicide Dub compilation. The new single features the vocal talents of CliffHanga’s sister Megan, from previous Download Of The Week stars The Beautiful Word, which was originally conceived as an acapella piece. “I knew straight away that I wanted to make something bigger out of it,” says CliffHanga. “I pretty much made the whole track that night, and then sent it to Will [Rankin] the next day. I’m pretty sure he cried.” Landmines, featuring The Beautiful Word, comes out on Monday.

This week’s Download is a remix of the track by Brighton-based Evolve Or Die. Find more of his music at http://www.soundcloud.com/evolveordie or http://www.twitter.com/evolveordie_uk.
