Common Tongues

From: Brighton

Influences: Efterklang, Local Natives, Yann Tiersen, Villagers, Radiohead and Brian Wilson.

Profile: Formed in 2010 by childhood friends Tom Anderson and Oli Hinkins, who grew up together in Cambridge, Common Tongues have achieved a lot in the last three years.

The band released their debut single Jumping Ships in 2011 on Something Nothing Records, which earned them festival slots at Bestival, Secret Garden Party, The Alternative Escape, Playgroup and Meadowlands, as well as support gigs with Beth Jeans Houghton, Michelle Stodart, Juan Zelada and Alice Gold.

Last year their tour diary included appearances at Focus Wales, Liverpool Sound City, London Folk Fest, Hop Farm, Cornbury, Lubstock and Tonefest, and a top five placing in the Isambard Folk Awards.

This week's download is their latest single, Solitary Thinker, which was released at the end of February with a special instore show at Regent Street's Apple Store. It is set to be followed up by an EP in April.
