The Argus: Dog In The Snow

Dog In The Snow

From: Brighton via Singapore

Influences: Sufjan Stevens, Sigur Ros, Franz Kafka and Jack London’s short story To Build A Fire.

Profile: Dog In The Snow is the alter-ego of songwriter Helen Brown, who returned to the UK in 2010 after spending her childhood in Singapore.

It was in Brighton that she met pianist and vocalist Marie-Eve de Gaultier, who backs her in live shows.

Over the past few years the pair have supported Hypnotized, Hidden Orchestra and Anneka, as well as making a series of YouTube videos, directed and shot by Helen.

Their music is produced by Dubstar’s Steve Hillier, who has been a long-time supporter and collaborator with the band.

Of her music Brown says, “My songs are born from existential crises coupled with too much technology and too few trees, navigating the strange worldly lines of peaceful existence and brutal occurrences.”
