Influences: Appalachian mountain music and British folk.

Profile: Tales of murder, ballads of love and loss, and pitched battles between mandolin and fiddle are all features of Hatful Of Rain’s debut album, Way Up On The Hill, which was released on Lewes’s Union Music in May.

The quartet is led by Chloe Overton, who not only sings but also writes the majority of the songs, backed by classical violinist James Shenton and the harmony vocals of Phil Jones on double bass and clawhammer banjo and Fred Gregory on guitar and mandolin.

Tracks from the album have already received airplay on BBC Radio 2 from Mike Harding and Bob Harris.

Hatful Of Rain release new single The Exit Song on iTunes and Amazon on Monday, July 23. The video for the track, which goes live on Sunday, July 22, features actress Amanda Abbington, the wife of The Office star Martin Freeman.
