The Argus: Lawson

Lawson

From: Mansfield, Chesterfield, Liverpool and Brighton

Influences: Motown, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Paramore, Eric Clapton, Guns N’ Roses, The Beatles, The Searchers, The Stones, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, The Script, The Feeling, Sugababes and anything with guitars.

Profile: Forming via Myspace, and taking their name from the doctor who carried out a life-saving brain tumour operation on singer Andy Brown, Lawson have already played to packed audiences supporting Will Young, The Wanted and Avril Lavigne.

The band is back in Brighton, drummer Adam Pitts's hometown, fresh from recording sessions in Los Angeles with Grammy award winning producer John Shanks, who has previously worked with Bon Jovi, Alanis Morissette, Take That.

The band was signed to Polydor after two years of solid graft, playing up and down the country, partly under the name The Grove.

Their break came when they were asked to support The Wanted as an unsigned band, in an acoustic format. They were spotted by the major label at their first headline show following the tour, in Brighton, eventually signing on the dotted line last July.
