The Argus: Lianne Hall

Lianne Hall

From: Brighton

Profile: Like many singer-songwriters Lianne started out writing and recording EPs at home as a teenager and giving them out to friends at school.

She left her hometown of Peterborough to live in a bus and work with jazzpunk- noise unit Witchknot, make acoustic folk with cellist Bela Emerson under the name Hiphuggers and collaborate with bedroom producer Andy Wills as Pico.

Coming to the attention of the legendary John Peel she went on to record five sessions with him under different line-ups, and featured on the soundtrack to his Sound Of The Suburbs documentary.

Moving with Pico to Brighton in 2000, she has since collaborated with Matt Eaton, Alice Eldridge and Susanne Lambert in the Broken Heart Club, and Paul Hartnoll of Orbital fame.

She also helps run the West Hill Music Club at West Hill Hall, in Compton Avenue, Brighton, which has played host to local and national music shows.

She released her first album Abandon Ship in 2006 and followed it up last year with Crossing Wires, which is home to this week’s Download Of The Week.
