Mirrors

From: Brighton

Profile: If you were to lay bets on which band is going to be the next big thing out of Brighton, you would get pretty short odds for Mirrors. Formed from the ashes of Bexhill’s NME favourites Mumm-Ra, the band’s progress has been swift, from being one of the buzz bands at The Great Escape Festival 2009 despite it only being their second live gig.

Last October saw them release a single for the uber-hip Moshi Moshi Singles Club, previously home to early releases by the likes of The Drums, Florence And The Machine and Kate Nash. And they have just been announced as the pop noir support to synth legends OMD for a jaunt across Germany.

Last month the besuited four-piece took over New Hero with a Bastille Day-celebrating theme night Un Autre Monde, which showed off their audio-visual show.

Later this month they will be releasing their first single for Brighton’s Skint Records. Ways To An End will be out on Monday, August 23, mixing krautrock and synth-pop with a subtle sample from a former Poet Laureate. Its parent album is slated for release in 2011. Among the videos to accompany the release is a film shot at Brighton’s Duke Of York’s Picturehouse.
