Paul Steel

From: Brighton

Influences: Super Furry Animals, Rufus Wainwright, The Beach Boys, XTC, Sufjan Stevens, Steely Dan, Aaron King, High Llamas, Phil Spector, Van Dyke Parks, Ed Harcourt and Dukes Of Stratosphere

Profile: Known across the city for his widescreen pop sound, Paul returned to the fray this summer with his second album Moon Rock, marking the 40th anniversary of the first man on the moon. The album was recorded in LA with Beck’s former producer Tony Hoffer. It was released in July with an animated movie version of his first record April And I, which was previously released in small chunks on YouTube.

The 22-year-old’s short career has already seen him sign to – and then leave – major label Polydor, play at Fuji Rock and V Festivals as well as support the likes of Sean Lennon, The Bees, Electric Soft Parade, Amy Winehouse and Ed Harcourt.
